What to Do 48 Hours Before Your VCE SAC: Final Prep Tips from the Vanguard Team

Two days out from your SAC and the pressure is real. We get it. That final 48-hour window can mess with even the most prepared student. Suddenly, everything you’ve studied feels like it’s slipping, and the temptation to cram every second before exam day hits hard.

But here’s the truth: VCE SAC preparation isn’t about stuffing in more content at the last minute. It’s about maximising confidence, reinforcing patterns you’ve already learned, and walking into the room with a clear, focused head.

Here’s how we approach it. No fluff, just real strategy that works.

1. Ditch the Last-Minute Cramming. Seriously.

If your SAC is in 48 hours and you’re only just starting to study, we’re not going to sugarcoat it: you’ve left it late. But that doesn’t mean all hope is lost. At this point, reading the textbook cover to cover or starting new content isn’t going to do much.

What will help? Practice questions. Prioritise application over memorisation. If you’re feeling shaky on content, do a question that forces you to use it. That builds both understanding and confidence.

2. Practice with Purpose, Not Panic

One of the biggest study tips before a SAC is knowing why you’re doing what you’re doing.

Doing a full practice SAC the night before? Pointless. You won’t have time to mark it properly or fix the gaps it reveals. Worse, it can rattle your mindset.

Instead:

  • Choose 2–3 targeted questions you’ve struggled with before
  • Focus on fixing your past mistakes
  • Do open-book versions if it helps you stay calm and focused

This is about refinement, not proving yourself.

3. Revise Your Errors – This One’s Huge

If you’ve been keeping a mistake log, now’s the time to crack it open. This is one of the most time-efficient revision hacks we teach our students.

Go through:

  • Mistakes from past SACs or practice questions
  • Tricky concepts you’ve consistently messed up
  • Examiner-style questions you’ve fumbled

The goal isn’t to be perfect. It’s to remind yourself what not to repeat. This saves marks, builds awareness, and gives you a clear checklist to mentally carry into your SAC.

4. Use Practice to Calm, Not Cram

A lot of students (us included back in the day) hit the question bank hard before SACs. Not to learn, but to settle nerves. That’s fine. Practice can be therapeutic when used right.

What you don’t want is to burn out the night before by forcing yourself through five practice exams.

Instead:

  • Use low-stakes textbook questions to warm up
  • Stick to short bursts of revision with clear intentions
  • Remind yourself: this is about mindset, not miracles

5. Skip the Group Chaos, Ask a VCE Tutor Instead

We’ve all been there: group chats blowing up the night before with screenshots, panic, and wild last-minute theories.

If that’s your vibe, cool. But if you need proper structure and support, hit up your VCE tutor instead. At VCE Vanguard Coaching, we walk you through exactly what to do in crunch time. We’re not just about handing out resources.

Need help structuring those final review hours? Want us to go over those mistake logs with you? That’s what we do.

6. Protect Your Energy. Yes, Really.

No one likes hearing this, but it’s true: sleep is SAC prep. Your brain won’t recall what you crammed if it’s running on three hours and a Red Bull.

In the last two days:

  • Aim for 7–8 hours of sleep (non-negotiable)
  • Go for a walk, stretch, or do something non-academic
  • Eat like a human being (not just Sour Straps and Up & Go)

You’ve spent weeks learning. Give your brain the fuel to actually use it.

Final Tip: Don’t Spiral. Strategise.

You’re not here to impress anyone in the next 48 hours. You’re here to show what you know. Clearly, calmly, and with confidence. That’s how you earn marks.

If you’ve prepped well, trust it. If you’re still refining your game plan, focus on what matters most. These final hours are for smart decisions.
